Get To Know Dr. Yurek
Dr. Yurek and his father started showing cutting horses in 1990 when he was 9 years old. Like many cutters, they were soon "addicted" to the thrill of training and showing these amazing athletes, spending as much time as possible at the barn, or on the road going to shows. As a teenager, Jamie showed from Florida to California, and from Montana to Texas.
Jamie attended Colby College (ME), playing soccer and pursuing his undergraduate degree in Biochemistry. After graduation in 2003, he attended Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine and completed his clinical year at Colorado State University, where he focused on equine lameness and medicine. Following graduation in January 2009, Jamie worked for Boulder Valley Vet for two years. During that time, he worked long hours to perfect his skills as a general practitioner. He also spent time with renowned equine lameness experts Chris Ray and Ryan Carpenter to further his skills in sports medicine. He founded VetweRx Equine in 2011 and has overseen its growth to now service horses from Black Forest to Fort Collins.
Jamie is a member of the American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP), the Colorado Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA), and the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA). He has completed AAEP 360 advanced education focusing on the equine neck and back. He has lectured at Ross University College of Veterinary Medicine about business and practice startups. He enjoys nearly all aspects of equine medicine but is particularly interested in advanced lameness and imaging.
Jamie, his wife Bethany, and his daughter Norah live in Frederick, CO with their dogs Otis, Gunther, and Ella. When he's not plotting world veterinary domination, Jamie enjoys spending time with friends and family, watching movies, and snow skiing.
