Get To Know Dr. Finley
Dr. Finley grew up working with horses and cattle on his family's ranch in southern Missouri. When he was fourteen, he showed his first cutting horse and was immediately hooked. Grant attended the University of Missouri, graduating with a BS in Animal Science in 1993. After graduation, he returned to his home and assumed management of the family's 900-head cow/calf operation. He continued to show cutting horses throughout the Midwest, Southeast, and Texas and managed a small band of quarter-horse broodmares.
After ten years, Grant decided to pursue a new career involving his interests in performance horses. He was accepted into the combined MBA/DVM program at Colorado State University. Grant graduated with honors, earning his MBA in 2007 and DVM in 2010. As a senior, the faculty selected him to receive the Equine Medicine Service Award. Following graduation, he completed a one-year internship at Equine Sports Medicine and Surgery in Weatherford, Texas, during which he received an invaluable mentorship in all aspects of equine practice. He worked for four years as a general practitioner with Equine Medical Services in Columbia, Missouri before returning to Colorado to join Dr. Yurek and VetweRx.
Dr. Finley is a member of the International Society for Equine Locomotor Pathology (ISELP), the American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP), the Colorado Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA), and the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA). He has completed ISELP education modules focusing on the stifle, hock, proximal suspensory, fetlock, pastern, neck, and back. As a student, he completed the first and second-level courses in equine dentistry and equilibration at The Academy of Equine Dentistry in Glenns Ferry, Idaho. He also completed the course in Veterinary Medical Acupuncture at CSU. He enjoys nearly all aspects of equine medicine particularly regenerative therapies.
Grant, his wife Michelle, and daughters Isabella and Juliette live in Longmont with their dog Hattie. When he's not working, Grant enjoys boating and water sports, snowboarding, hiking, and traveling to the beach.
