Get To Know Dr. Caffey
Dr. Stacy "Hondo" Caffey grew up on a cattle ranch bordering the Hill Country and South Texas Plains regions. While completing his undergraduate degree in biomedical sciences and Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Texas A&M University, He worked as a technician in a mixed animal practice, where he developed his passion for surgery. After completing his DVM in 2016, Dr. Caffey completed a rotating internship with Oakridge Equine Hospital, working with a mixed population of western performance, sport horses as well as racing Thoroughbred and Quarter Horses.
Dr. Caffey spent the next year as an intern with Cornell Ruffian Equine Specialists on Long Island, NY. During this time Dr. Caffey honed his skills in upper airway diagnostics and surgical intervention, management of orthopedic pathology treating a population of primarily Thoroughbred racehorses.
Dr. Caffey completed a Large Animal Surgery Residency with Washington State University in Pullman, WA in 2021 and obtained his board certification with the American College of Veterinary Surgeons in 2022.
Dr. Caffey is a member of the American Association of Equine Practitioners and the American Veterinary Medical Association. His special interests include orthopedic and soft tissue surgery, lameness and poor performance evaluations, advanced imaging, and emergency medicine.
Dr. Caffey, his wife Samantha, and daughter Edyth reside in Longmont with their two brood geldings and three dogs. In their spare time, they enjoy riding and spending time outdoors
