Maintaining & Restoring Soundness

Lameness can indicate a variety of issues, from subsolar abscesses, inflammation, or arthritis to fractures, tendon injuries, and infection. Accurate localization and diagnosis is the key to positive outcomes. Our veterinarians will assess your horse to pinpoint the source of the lameness so we can devise an effective treatment plan.

When horses injure themselves, there is no shortage of options to help facilitate and accelerate recovery. There are a growing number of regenerative orthobiologic products and regenerative procedures, along with rehabilitation, that can dramatically improve a horse’s return to function.

We offer a variety of therapeutic treatments to help manage pain, speed healing, and reduce inflammation and scar tissue. Our primary goal is to help your horse recover fully and return to their normal activities as soon as possible while minimizing the risk of further injury.

Evaluating & Treating Lameness

At VetweRx Equine, a lameness evaluation starts with a comprehensive hands-on examination in search of pain, heat, or swelling of muscles, joints, bones, and tendons.

Our veterinarians will evaluate the movement of the horse. We will also discuss any performance issues perceived by the trainer and rider. Flexion tests may illuminate any subtle signs of pain and irregular movement.

Diagnostic blocks may then be performed to help further localize the source of pain. This information then guides recommendations for diagnostic imaging or treatment depending on the severity of lameness and client goals.
